Quite excited today as I attended the first day of the two day NASM-CES course.
One issue of concern for me, initially anyways, is the depth of knowledge covered by the NASM course and the lack of knowledge imparted from my PT course (provider remaining nameless)
I've been reading on the subject; what the NASM protocols are and the methods and theories behind them. They blow everything I've done so far out of the water. I'm very happy I haven't been doing any PT recently!
My reason for choosing CES is that I'm ticking on in years and the cumulative stress and damage I've inflicted on myself over my training career has started taking its toll in not the most pleasant of ways. I envisaged my sore muscles being massaged by a bevy of lapdancers; instead I get to perform SMR (Self Myofascial Release) on them. Its nastier than it sounds, much nastier - imagine someone giving you a prolonged wedgie, but it has a fantastic effect releasing "knots" in the muscle and stimulating the Golgi Tendon Organs, triggering the relaxation reflex.
The course is pretty intense, with a lot of muscle responses and effects to recognise but very enjoyable.
Off to some more foam rolling and a good nights sleep.
